In keeping with our tradition of providing high-quality, low-cost software, Digital Impact proudly introduces the "24 Karat--Best of Class" CD-ROM shareware collection, a 10 disk CD-ROM collection.  Along with this new offering from Digital Impact, the Digital Impact BBS has changed its name to the SoftwareVAULT BBS,  emphasizing the enormous library of Shareware available via modems.
  3. However, if you wish to acquire a very large library of programs quickly, our CD-ROM collections are the best and most cost-effective method.  Digital Impact has very carefully chosen programs from top authors to create one of the world's largest collections of Shareware and public-domain software.
  4. Shareware is a "try-before-you-buy" method of selling software.  In the beginning, Shareware was purchased directly from the author.  Because the authors were able to avoid the cost of marketing through normal retail channels, consumers received great bargains.  One drawback, however, was the limited information available to the public about which software titles were available. Distributing Shareware through computer bulletin boards was the logical solution that soon became the standard procedure for all Shareware authors.  By allowing their programs to be copied from bulletin boards and shared with few restrictions, Shareware authors are able to reach a much greater number of users.

The SoftwareVAULT BBS is one of the better bulletin boards for bringing shareware to the consumer. We maintain a good working relationship with the authors and offer them the chance to present their software in an electronic marketplace at a greatly reduced cost. The distribution of Shareware on CD-ROM was the next logical step. It is like downloading many programs from the BBS at once. The same Shareware rules and requirements apply, of course.
  6. Digital Impact pays a great deal of attention to all the software it distributes. All programs uploaded to our BBS are carefully tested for viruses. The software is copied to CD-Masters and our CD-ROM discs are produced using state-of-the-art technology.

  22. The shareware concept makes it possible for you to obtain extremely powerful software at an affordable price and to have the opportunity to try it before you buy it.
  23. The Association of Shareware Professionals (ASP) is an organization formed to strengthen the future of shareware.  Its members, all of whom subscribe to a code of ethics, are committed to the concept of shareware as a method of marketing.
  24. The ASP sets standards for its members and their shareware products which provide, among other things, that programs produced by ASP members must be fully documented, non-crippled, and offered with at least a minimum level of support.  It also sets the standards for shareware disk vendors and provides information to the public about shareware.

Shareware is a unique marketing approach which allows consumers to purchase software directly from the author. Because this eliminates costly marketing, promotion, and packaging, consumers can obtain quality software at a fraction of the commercial cost.  Shareware authors allow their programs to be copied and distributed with few restrictions.  Shareware users are encouraged to examine a program, copy it, and pass it on to friends.  If users find the software program useful, they are asked to register with the software author.  This usually means paying a registration fee directly to the shareware author. In return for this registration fee, "registered users" receive the right to continue using the software and added benefits such as full documentation, technical support, and future updates of the program.

Registration is the key to success for the shareware concept. If you try a program and it does not meet your needs, you are not expected to register.  However, if you try a program, like it, and continue to use it, you should compensate the author with the registration fee.  Registration also insures further development of the program.

Comet Buster for windows is an action game based on the classic Asteroids.  The premise is very simple. Fly your spaceship around and shoot anything that moves. Your spaceship can turn left, turn right, or thrust forward. It can shoot up to four bullets at once. It can optionally be equipped with special abilities such as hyperspace, shields, or the disrupter.

  142. A game that is very easy to learn, but very difficult to master.  Conquest is a war game similar in concept to the board game Risk.  You are the lord of an entire world, destined to rule the galaxy. In this strategic wargame you will explore 26 different worlds with nine different levels of technology.  Use the resources generated by each planet you own to build five different types of ships.

Some worlds are virgin fruits, ready for you to colonize.  Some worlds have natives who do not wish to accept your rule, these you must conquer for they will yield more valuable resources. Assemble fleets to colonize new worlds and CONQUER enemy systems.  Extend your dominion to claim that which is rightfully yours.

  192. Black Dog Cribbage
  193. Black Dog Cribbage is a Microsoft Windows program based on the popular card game.  The program pits you against a computerized opponent.  As in regular Cribbage, the object of the game is to be the first player to score 121 points.  The points are earned during the playing of each hand, and by counting the hands after all the cards have been played.  Black Dog Cribbage features three levels of difficulty.  In addition, several point counting options are also available.  The outstanding graphics and user interface bring the game to life.  Popup help balloons give easy to follow instructions and explanations.

  204. BINGO Version 2.5 is a Windows 3.x game for 1 player.  You have four randomly generated BINGO cards to play with.  You can choose among ten different BINGO patterns to play.  These include, "X" Bingo, "T" BINGO, and Blackout.  Numbers are drawn randomly until you, or the computer calls BINGO.  You start with 100 points.  You lose 10 points when the computer calls BINGO, and can gain up to 10,000 points when you call BINGO.  An animated BINGO ball displays the number and letter just drawn.  The rate at which the numbers are drawn can be changed during the game.  A scoreboard shows all previously called numbers.

TailGunner is a space combat shoot-the-bad-guy type game.  So the rules are very simple. Shoot all the ships before they kill you.  See... simple.  You are the Tail turret gunner on a futuristic spaceship that is making a run out of enemy territory.  You are being pursued relentlessly by a large group of fighters.  Your job is to destroy them.  The enemy ships will attack you in wave after wave of merciless laser barrages.  You are armed with state of the art plasma cannons and pulse lasers.  These weapons will put a serious hurt on anything they touch. To fire your weapons, simply aim the crosshairs on your target and click a mouse button.  The lasers are controlled with the left button, and the cannons with the right. Just aim and fire.  At the top corners of the screen are 2 lock-shoot indicators that will flash when you are lined up over a target, don't watch them, but notice them with your peripheral vision. When they flash, fire, you should hit something.  When you do hit a ship, you will hear it. And when you destroy a ship you will see it.
